History: To the outside world, David Kelly appeared to be a normal boy. However, he was a mutant with several unique abilities. Two pairs of transparent wings were a prominent mutation that was difficult to hide. He was able to keep his wings folded and discreetly tucked under clothing for the most part. Unfortunately, there was the constant risk of exposure. Eventually, the strain of raising such a unique child was too much for his parents. They divorced. In his late teens, David Kelly left home and never looked back. He was a very bright young man and put himself through school. Kelly graduated from the university with honors and a biology degree.

New York City usually felt safe knowing that the Protectors were around to protect the city from any major disasters. When the group disbanded, David Kelly thought it was the perfect time to step up and put his powers to good use. He hoped to join the X-Men. He made a connection with the mutant super-team but was denied membership at that time. He decided to become Dragonfly, a super-hero that would serve as a guardian to the city he loved. Six months after the Protectors had broken up, the city faced another crisis. Diablo had poisoned the city's water supply in an attempt to control the population with his mind-control alchemy. One by one, ex-Protectors got involved to stop Diablo's plot. Dragonfly gladly assisted in any way he could. He contributed his considerable talents in combat against the rampaging Mr. Hyde.

At the time of the Diablo crisis, the Force Mover became mentally unstable and began a series of villainous acts. Force Mover was the ex-Protector formerly known as Solamar. He attacked Blast, Firephase and Dragonfly at the St. Arbogast Hospital. Force Mover unleashed intense, blinding light on his victims. Many in the city were exposed to his visual assaults. Dragonfly suffered permanent blindness and was forced to retire as a result.
